Laminators have been around for decades, but the newest styles and accessories make laminators an important supply for any office at home or at work. They are useful in schools and businesses alike. The different types of laminators offer consumers various options and possibilities for just what can they can protect and preserve.
Film laminating machines
There are two basic types of laminators. Sheet laminators and film laminators. With film laminating, you are not limited to the length of the laminating sheet. The only size restrictions are in the width and the roll of film can go on and on for the length of the entire roll of film if you wish.
Film laminating machines are generally very wide. It is a good idea to line up several shorter width projects that need protecting so you can save money and time. The laminating machine will seal the sheets of film together whether there is something in between them or not. So if you are laminating for example a 20” wide paper that is 36” long, you can place three sheets side by side and run them through to the 36” length. Those 60” will give let you laminate with minimal waste on a 74” laminator.
Pouch Laminators
A smaller desk top type laminator is the pouch laminator. The acrylic film for this type of equipment lets you slide the printed material into a pouch that is sealed on one to three sides. Then the laminator does the rest of the job of sealing. This provides a nice finished edge to a standard size sheet or can be trimmed closer to the edge of a smaller project. There are many uses for the pouch laminators such as laminating id card printer outputs or to protect other smaller documents.
Laminating supplies are not necessarily brand specific, but match the size and type of laminator. You will need to purchase supplies to go specifically with your type of machine. The equipment description in the printed materials and service leaflet that come with the laminator will give the specific model numbers for supplies that work with your particular brand and style. However, there are some standard supplies that work on all laminators.
